Aim of the project:

The scientific area of the project is that of new materials with targeted properties i.e. catalytic, for environmental protection. More precisely, the overall goal of the project is to develop suitable strategies for preparation of some Ti(IV), V(IV,V), Cr(III), Mn(II, IV), Fe(III), Co(II, III), Cu(II), Ce(III,IV) complexes of lacunary Dawson metal-oxide clusters, and to learn how to organize them on suitable substrates in order to obtain new materials with catalytic properties for selective oxidation of terpens to useful products for perfumes and flavors industry. In this respect, the metal-oxide clusters are deposited in/on porous oxide materials in form of extruded materials, microparticulate powders or nanostructured thin films and/or layers. The project exhibits a multidisciplinary feature aiming to the Dawson metal-oxide clusters synthesis and characterization, their organization in composite materials and testing of the catalytic properties in the selective oxidation of terpenes.

Objectives of the project

  • Synthesis and characterisation of some Ti(IV), V(IV,V), Cr(III), Mn(II, IV), Fe(III), Co(II, III), Cu(II), Ce(III,IV) complexes of lacunary Dawson metal-oxide clusters.

  • Preparation and characterisation of porous nanostructurated thin films and/or layers of alumina, silica and/or titania

  • Preparation and characterisation of some new Dawson metal-oxide clusters -based microcomposite materials in form of extruded materials and powders

  • Preparation and characterisation some new Dawson metal-oxide clusters -based nanocomposite materials as thin films or/and layers deposited on ITO-glass or steel support

  • Determination of the catalytic properties Dawson metal-oxide clusters -based composite materials for the selective oxidation of terpenes to useful products for perfumes and flavors industry

  • Correlation between composition, structure and catalytic activity for the new composite materials in order to reveal the metal-oxide clusters-substrate interactions
